Star Trek: Lower Decks - the latest adult animated show set in the Star Trek universe - has now started, with episode one airing on 6 August 2020. But sadly, no official confirmed release date for UK and international viewers has been given.
Fans have already expressed their concerns to showrunner Mike McMahan, who ominously replied that fans across the pond shouldn’t worry. Whilst this is verbal confirmation that the show will eventually get an international release, this could be months from now.
I wouldn’t worry. 🙂— Mike McMahan (@MikeMcMahanTM) July 31, 2020
Fortunately, there is a method for watching Star Trek: Lower Decks in the UK. We also have a similar article for Star Trek: Discovery, and a guide on how to watch the Star Trek films and shows in order if you want to become a fully-fledged trekkie yourself.

Watch Star Trek: Lower Decks with a VPN
Star Trek: Lower Decks is available on CBS All Access, a streaming platform with two tiers - $5.99 per month for ad-supported content and $9.99 per month for ad-free (along with offline downloads) as well as a seven-day free trial for both subscriptions.
Currently, CBS All Access is locked for anyone else outside of the US. However, you can get an account from another country through using a VPN. There’s also the stickler of payment information which requires a card tied to the US - but if you don’t have this you can use a gift card instead.
If you don’t know already, VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, and is a piece of software that reroutes your IP address to allow you to browse the internet securely and anonymously. You can also use it to appear as if you’re based in another country - so for watching CBS All Access this would be America.
There are numerous VPN providers out there, but for the best combination of price and features we recommend either NordVPN or ExpressVPN - two services we’ve tried and tested numerous times here at Tech Advisor. You can also explore some free VPN options, but these likely won’t have enough servers to access CBS All Access successfully.
Once you’ve downloaded your VPN take the following steps:
- Connect to a US server on your chosen VPN
- Purchase a CBS online gift card on either eBay or PayPal ($25 is the minimum, which will get you nearly four months worth of ad-supported viewing)
- Go to the CBS All Access homepage and sign up for an account with an email address, password and any US Zip Code - but don’t enter any payment information on the next page
- Go to the CBS All Access gift card page and input the pin on your email gift receipt
- Choose the subscription plan you want to sign up for
You should now be able to watch Star Trek: Lower Decks on CBS All Access. The first season will consist of ten episodes, so a $25 gift card should cover your payment for this duration. If you’d like to know more about the process, take a look at our full guide to watching CBS All Access in the UK.
