It seems like every Disney classic is getting some sort of live-action adaptation/spin-off these days, but one that looks pretty interesting is the upcoming villain origin story, Cruella.
The movie will detail the rise of the awful fashion designer, Cruella de Vil, from 101 Dalmatians. Cruella has some big names attached to it, with Emma Stone in the starring role, alongside the likes of Emma Thompson, Emily Beecham, and Dev Patel.
When does Cruella release?
The wait for Cruella is nearly over, as it will be out worldwide on 28 May 2021. If you want a taste of what’s in store, take a look at the official trailer below:
Will Cruella release in cinemas?
If the lockdown phases stay on track in the UK, yes. Cruella’s release date puts it eleven days after cinemas in the country will be allowed to reopen on 17 May 2021.
Once pre-orders for tickets go live, we’ll put them in this article. You should be able to see it in the likes of Vue, Cineworld, Odeon, The Everyman, Empire, Showcase and more.
Of course, if you’re not comfortable visiting the cinema at the end of May, there is another way to watch Cruella.
Will Cruella release on Disney Plus?
Yes – like Raya and the Last Dragon and Black Widow, Cruella will get a dual cinematic and streaming release. Disney Plus subscribers will be able to purchase Cruella for an additional cost via Disney+ Premiere Access.
Whilst the price for Cruella hasn’t officially been confirmed, we suspect that it will cost £19.99 in the UK. This is the same price as other movies that have been released via Disney+ Premiere Access.
If you're not already subscribed to Disney+, you can do so on the website. An account costs £7.99 per month, or £79.90 per year at the time of writing.
Here's what you'll need to do on 28 May to watch Cruella at home:
- Sign into your Disney+ account and head to the homepage
- Click on Black Widow
- Click 'Get Premiere Access'
- Confirm it is an additional purchase, and that you're happy to billed extra
Will Cruella be available on VOD and DVD?
Cruella won’t immediately be available on VOD services and on DVD - it will likely be released in both of these formats at least a few months after its cinematic and Disney+ Premiere Access debut.
It will also likely be available to Disney+ subscribers at no extra charge after a few months – so if you’re happy to wait and are already an account holder on this streaming platform, this is the cheapest option.
