The Flash Season 5 Rumours

Right at the end of Season 4 we met Nora Allen-West, who it turns out is the child of Barry and Iris visiting from the future but now stuck here. Like daddy she's also a speedster, going under the moniker XS. Right from the start it's clear she's a daddy's girl, but what's Iris done to upset Nora, and what's this big, big mistake she's made?

Played by Jessica Parker Kennedy, XS will join Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), Iris West (Candice Patton), Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), Joe West (Jesse L Martin), Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), Ralph Dibney (Hartley Sawyer) and various forms of Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) as a show regular. Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) will be back only for a few guest appearances.

Season 5's villain will be Cicada, played by Chris Klein, who blames Barry for the death of his wife and is on a one-man mission to destroy meta-humans. We'll also see appearances from Caitlin's dad, Dr Thomas Snow (Kyle Secor), as we learn Killer Frost has always been hiding in the background, and new meta Spencer Young (Kiana Madeira).

Fans are speculating that Cisco could meet his demise in season 5. His role was already under scrutiny as he was offered a new job as The Breacher in season 4, but a photo of Hartley Sawyer mucking around on set was posted to Instagram (and later deleted) by Candice Patton, which appeared to show a news article on her computer in the background headlined 'Vive dead'. We already know Iris is heading back to journalism, but we hope this isn't her big new story.

The title of episode three has been revealed as 'The Death Of Vibe', so things aren't looking great for Cisco.

Tim Cavanagh will direct the eight episode, which will be the show's 100th, while Danielle Panabaker will take the eighteenth. We can expect an ArrowVerse crossover in the ninth episode.

Barry's also got a new suit minus the chin strap in season 5, gifted to him by his daughter and activated via a special ring.

The first season of The Flash sees Barry Allen come to terms with his newfound need for speed, quickly realising he can use his powers for good. At first he tackles a new meta-human villain in each episode, but an overall story arc forms as we are introduced to Dr Wells and the Reverse-Flash. There's an early cross over with DC's Arrow, which we see repeated in further seasons and later extends to Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.
