Amazon’s Fire TV Stick - as well as the Fire TV Cube and Fire TV box - make any TV smarter and you can now install the Disney Plus app and watch shows from the new streaming service.
Disney Plus has been available in the US for a few months and while it has been quite the wait for us in the UK, at least the service is available on so many TVs and streaming devices. It’s also available on Sky Q, Now TV, Roku, Apple TV, PS4 and more.
How to get Disney Plus on Fire TV
Before you get started, it's easiest to sign up for a Disney+ account through a web browser on your phone or computer. There's a 7-day free trial, and after that it costs £5.99/$6.99 per month, or £59.99/$69.99 for an annual account.
Simply use the search (the magnifying glass icon at the top left of your Fire TV’s home screen) and enter Disney Plus.
Alternatively, if you have a Fire TV with Alexa (which is most of them) then just press your remote control’s mic button and say “Alexa, open Disney Plus”.
This also works on Fire TV Edition smart TVs, such as this JVC 40" model which is only £299.99.
- Search for Disney Plus in the search bar on your Fire TV
- Select the Disney Plus app under Apps & Games and select Get
- Wait for the app to download
- Open the Disney Plus app when prompted...
- ... or return to the home screen where you can can access the Disney Plus shortcut
Once you’ve signed up, or signed in, you can then take advantage of the fact that Disney Plus is included in the universal search on Fire TV. This means you can ask Alexa to play The Mandalorian, and she will find it and play the first episode from Disney Plus.
If you’re not familiar with the content available, there’s a lot more than the Disney films you might be thinking of. Check out the launch trailer below for a selection of the titles the service launches with.
How to get Disney Plus on Amazon Fire tablets
In the same way as for Fire TV, you can download the Disney+ app on your Fire tablet, and you can then stream and download movies, TV series or shorts.
Better still, you can pause a show on your Fire TV and resume watching on a Fire Tablet, and watch on the go, wherever you are.
You can sign up for a 7-day free trial of the new streaming service on Fire TV and Fire Tablet, and after that you will pay the regular price of £5.99/$6.99 a month or £59.99/$69.99 for an annual subscription.
