windows 10 recovery disk and rebuild PC

  David2749 17:18 09 Dec 2018

I updated from Win 7 to win 10 when it was free to do so. Question 1) How do I make a win 10 recovery disk onto a USB? I've tried carrying out the instructions from the web, but it doesn't make it to o clear.

Question 2) I want to rebuild my PC and currently only have my Win 7 disk with the key, do I first install win 7 then insert the win 10 recovery disk, once its been made? Many thanks

No need to install 7 first. The activation key for Win 10 is on Microsoft's servers so will automatically activate. See this thread.

Not clear exactly what you are trying to achieve. If you just want a USB which allows you to do a fresh install then download the "Media Creation Tool" from Microsoft. It can create a USB or an iso file. It will activate automatically when you use it to clean install Win 10.

This thread should really be in our Windows Help section, rather than Tech Helproom. I'll move it now.
