Win 10 internal update failure

  highside 14:48 30 Jul 2015

I tried to download Win10, it opened with 'checking for updates' and hangs there never completing the check, even though Automatic Updates works and it actually checked and added updates today (set to daily) One thing I tried was sfc and to my surprise it found sime files which it cannot repair / replace. Surprised because the PC (Acer all in one Win 8.1 64 bit) has run for about two years with no problems at all and still does so apart from these incidents today. Do you think they are connected?. Is there a program, free or buyable which can check and replace the files? I dont think I want to get into the microsoft log system from a quick glance. Thanks for any advice
