"Windows Network Diagnostics" error messages

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. HP model p6710f desktop.

Trying to get a new IP address. My ISP agreed to help, reset the modem and that did not work.

Tried CMD prompt as an Administrator

Start->Run, type cmd and press Enter. Type ipconfig /release at the prompt window, press Enter,

Getting error messages:

No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection 2 while it has its media disconnected.

No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection 2 while it has its media disconnected.

Ran the "Windows Network Diagnostics"

It says "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration

  1. Right-click on the network icon on the bottom right of your taskbar. Then select Open Network and Sharing Center.

  2. Click Change adapters settings. Proceed to right-click on the network adapter you’re using and choose Properties.

  3. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4).

  4. Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are checked.
