PC start up to an older date

  Mh1 22:54 10 Apr 2017

I booted my PC up earlier today and I noticed that I was missing a few icons and PC settings so I restarted my PC and it happened again however I was missing basically everything on my pc as if it booted from a year ago. I'v tried to do a system restore but I keep getting an error where I cannot even activate system restore. I have no idea what to do or know what is going on? Do I have a virus or is my PC just screwed, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Looks like you need to renew the CMOSS battery. It is usually easy to do on a desktop but not sure about laptops.

Oops ignore that, How old is your computer. My advice was for a computer that keeps changing time and date. So if the date and time on yours is correct ignore my first post.

System restore will usually work in safe mode.

You could try running CMD as administrator and type in sfc /scannow to see if it finds and fixes any problems.

Maybe give Malwarebytes a run to see if it finds any problems.

Actually, checking that the date and time is correct is the first thing to do and often not noticed.
