OneDrive problem - unspecified error

I recently had a problem where my laptop refused to sync with OneDrive online and thereon to my other devices. This is now sorted but now when I try to make a file 'online only' using the context menu I get an error box referring to an "unspecified error".

I have tried this with all files including one which is simply named "Header.doc" in the OneDrive root folder, this in order to avoid long names and unusual characters causing the problem.

I can't get any help from MS who now refer all OneDrive issues to non-MS specialist techs who charge and who can't be got hold of; I tried for a total of 2 working days without success. In any case they charge for their services and haven't bee reported as solving much.

The reason I'd like to make some files online only is that I have 1.05TB of spare OneDrive capacity on this account alone and would like to backup my hi-res music files but without 'online only' status my 256GB SSD would be swamped with the first few albums....

Have run various OneDrive cab diag and reset utilities with no success, they report no problems whereas they did resolve hidden problems on the earlier issue.


1/. Laptop (which can't do 'online only': Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit

2/. Desktop (which can): Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit

Any ideas? I feel that there must be a simple problem at the root of this. OneDrive has been wonderful, syncing is working great and I've been using MS sync utilities since Mesh Beta and depend on them utterly but I would like to be able to re-enable online only; I did once put everything offline on the laptop and probably this is where the issue started.
