As I'm the only user I do not want to be forced to log-in every time I start the PC. In the past after an update I could just use netplwiz. After an update pre-Christmas this method does not work. Autoadminlogon in registry is set to 1. this happened once in the past and I corrected the problem, but cannot remember how I did it (old age.

Thanks FruitBat, thought you would come up with the answer. Creating a Default Password in the registry solved the problem. My search this morning only took me as far as the AutoAdminLogon with no mention of creating a default password.
