I have Office 635 for five devices

I have Office 635 for five devices but didn't try to download it onto a MS Surface RT that I have with Windows 8. Would this four-year-old surface take 635? If it will not I won't be able to work with it anymore.

Take it you meant office 365.

If you are using a PC, the minimum requirements for Office 365 are: Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 2008 R2 with .NET 3.5 or later. Office 2007+ or later. Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10; Mozilla Firefox 10.x or a later version; or Google Chrome 17.x.21

Maybe best waiting for someone to confirm that it works before you try it.

Connect to Office 365 using your Windows RT tablet. Devices running Windows 8.1 RT, such as Surface RT, come with Office Home and Student 2013, which you can use with Office 365. Office Home and Student 2013 includes the RT versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook. If your device is running Windows 8, you must upgrade to Windows 8.1 to get Outlook 2013 RT.
