External HDD not shutting down when turning off the PC?

  EmilPesonen 22:56 18 Oct 2014

I have Windows 8.1 istalled on my iMac and when I used to use MAC, my External HDD would automatically go to sleep when I put my PC to sleep but not with Windows, is there a fix for this?

Don't think so as my external drive is powered even with the PC shut down as the USB ports are still powered with the PC plugged in.

Is it connected via USB3? s.

Please confirm exactly how the external drive is powered, using a mains adaptor or by power from the computer.

StephenCrossland#alanrwood, It's connected via USB and it's powered by an AC. (sorry for my English, I hope you will be able to undestand that sentence)

Fruit Bat, then come does it automatically shut down when using MAC? :(

Your English is not a problem and better than my attempts to speak French and German.

If it is powered by an external power adaptor it will not turn off completely only go into power-down mode. This must somehow be initiated via the USB connection but I'm sorry I can't help any more. Maybe let us know which model of external drive caddy you are using.

It's an Hitachi USB HDD. Model: hitachi hcs5c1050cla382
