Cant log in to Win10 user account!

I'm greeted by a black screen whenever I reboot.

If I ctrl alt delete, other accounts work fine.

This was immediately after I ran a malware and antivirus scan.

Coincidentally, wifi has also been rubbish. I'm unsure if this is just bad luck.

With the black screen comes a window which says

"C:\windows\system32>"

and also some details about my Win10 version and Microsoft corporation. Thanks.

Sounds like you are in command prompt

Ctrl Alt Del - select task manager - Click File Run new task - In the open Box type msconfig and press enter.

In the general tab make sure Normal boot is ticked - in the boot tab make sure safeboot is unchecked and no other boxes are checked - click apply

If your screen starts flashing, press ALT-TAB, you are looking for a dialog box asking you to restart - when you see the restart dialog box click OK.

PC should then restart and run normally.

Hi, thanks for the tip.

I followed instructions to the letter many times and the problem persists.

When I check System Configuration after reboot, it keeps shifting back to 'selective startup'.

When you type "explorer.exe" in the command prompt do you get to your log in?

If you are able to login it sounds as if you have a virus.

Should you be able to get into Windows, do you have a recent system restore point that you can use?

Do you have Anti virus software installed?

Again, if you can boot from "explorer.exe but don't have a recent restore point you need to get rid of the Malware that is causing your problem, run a virus scan and the free version of Malwarebytes from click here

There are additional steps involving editing the registry click here refers to W7 though W10 should be the same procedure.

Fixed it with a workaround: migrated old files to a new account and then ran further scans. Thanks for your help.
