I have a old PC with widows xp professional. It has not been started for years. I tried start it. It said put boot disk in. When i do that. Will I need the activation key if it starts the PC?

Possibly CMOS battery needs changing and also check in Bios that Hard drive is selected as first boot.

Maybe it is trying to start from Floppy disc if it has one. Not a Dell is it.

  1. Does it have a floppy drive and do you have a boot disk? - you cannot make a DOS boot disk for XP on a modern PC unless you can download a full iso.

  2. Do you have a XP CD? and a CD/DVD drive fittd you can boot from that
