auto shutdown after completion of current tasks

how to allow current windows 7 tasks to complete before auto shutdown? Until recently, this was set to work and if something like a image backup was running and I clicked to shut down, I would get a message that said something like, "Shutdown will proceed upon completion of tasks that are running". Somehow, this stopped working and I can't find how to set it up this way again!
