The Winter Olympics....

... must be driving the environmentalists to distraction with the lack of snow in Vancouver and fuel guzzling trucks transporting snow about the place to compensate.

I should think the contractors are in trouble for not padding out the pillars around the ice run.

Vancouver seems an odd choice of venue for the winter Olympics. Typical weather for February is not very wintry. Rather rainy, and day temperatures around 7 degrees.

Another site states. "Snowfall is rare in winter".

perhaps not one else wanted to spend on hosting them

  sunnystaines 11:59 14 Feb 2010

it would be better to have same location each time and nations pay to take part to even out the cost

Snow (lack of) is not their only problem...
'The city initially put the public cost of hosting the Olympics at $660 million. It has exceeded that by $5 billion in unanticipated public spending, when the government bailed out the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC), which went bankrupt during the global financial turmoil. Due to the government’s unanticipated Olympic spending, Vancouver’s most basic public programs will have to scrabble for funding in the coming years. The already neglected programs to address housing and homelessness won’t make the government’s agenda at all'.
Bit of a warning here methinks.
