Will You be Watching the Wedding or the Cup Final?

Saturday May 19th is the date for the royal wedding and a major sporting event.

It may be the cause of friction in some households as to which TV channel is viewed.

Personally I have little interest in either but wish the couple well and may the best team win.

. It's called a general election

That won't change things much, just a different set of people running the show.

So , if the republicans take over, they would have Buck House as Presidential Palace. Nigel would appear on the balcony and salute Group 4 Security as their vans and bicycles went by ( Brigade of Guards abolished) Parliament purged of “crooks and pervs” and replaced by Nigel’s cronies. Johnnie foreigners kicked out ( like Amin and Mugabe did ) .

Sounds like paradise, the visitors will flock to see the “ Changing of the security guards”

"Not good for the poor to be getting poor and the rich stuffing themselves to the hilt by the day."

I invite you to name a single country on the planet where that doesn't happen.

I don't expect to see you do it, because no such country exists. There is no political system that ensures an equal distribution of wealth and opportunity for all. There never has been, and there never will be - basic human nature will see to that.

We can swap governments and ideologies to our hearts' content; we can have monarchies, Republics, dictatorships and socialist utopias, but there has never existed any form of government which eliminated social and financial divisions amongst its citizens. It can't happen.

Our society will change as long as there is the will amongst its people to change it, regardless of the colour of the party in power. Change comes not from politicians, but from the citizens who elect them. If you are unhappy with the way society is structured, you can be sure that there are others like you. The problem is, are there enough of them, and are there enough candidates who will deliver when in government?

"I don't expect to see you do it, because no such country exists. There is no political system that ensures an equal distribution of wealth and opportunity for all. There never has been, and there never will be - basic human nature will see to that." The fault line in your counter point to mine is the use of the word "equal"., I didn't say that. This is the most used argument to discredit the vision of a fairer society. It's comes so natural to you to make this point and, the use of "equal" as to suggest that it is embedded in your prejudiced point of view. I merely suggest a "fairer" distribution and I think your retort is unwarranted.Of course, everyone knows that people, situations, things ets., cannot be "equal". Its an utopian view which resides in Phantasy(fantasy)and therefore is not achievable in reality. Your argument and by your use of the word" equal" comes from you not me. It's a very convenient projection isn't it??

Oh dear - I can see that I've ruffled your feathers. I can see it because of your accusation about my 'prejudiced point of view'. what you conveniently overlook, of course, is the fact that your posts display your own very prejudiced point of view in large letters.

I notice that you haven't accepted my invitation to name a country - probably because you can't - even if you substitute the word 'fair' for 'equal'. Your use of the phrase 'fairer distribution' is a cop-out; who decides when the distribution of wealth has become 'fairer'?

The thing is, the distribution of wealth will always be considered unfair by those who think they should have more than they have. Some people believe that they have a right to more money, even if they haven't earned it.

Like I said earlier, in a democracy we can change things if enough of us want to. All we have to do is find politicians who will stand for election on the promise that they will make the changes when we elect them. The we have to trust them to do it. It's the only way, and it sounds pretty straightforward but it's not.

You'll get your 'fairer' society, once people stop being selfish, competitive human beings....which is tantamount to saying never.

Why are the date stamps on this post showing Dec 2017 up until the FE's last post?

Quickbeam

Because a spammer posted on this thread overnight. The post and reported post have been deleted.

I was surprised the thread wasn't locked, seeing how old the last legitimate posting.

There must have been a similar titled FA Cup Vs Royal Wedding then. I didn't think the wedding date was set until this year.
