Will trade trump the murder of Khashoggi?

Particularly for the US and the UK.

Easy for Emily Thornberry to talk, but her party isn't in power.

Breaking news. His body parts found in Consul Generals house garden!

How do they get out of that? Or will Trump claim Fake News?

Under Trump, trade trumps all...

It is rumoured that the hit squad cut off his fingers and took them to the Crown Prince in Riyadh to prove that he would write no more...

Apart from the full horror of it all, if they were going to kill him , a contract hit in the US would have been less obtrusive. Mossad tends to take out enemies in other countries , not by stupidly luring them into an Israeli consulate.

Interesting to see if this episode will follow a similar retaliation to that of the attempt on Skripal. Will Prince Charles shun his "friend" , the Crown Prince?

From the BBC News Site

"Speaking to reporters at the White House, Mr Trump said: "They had a very bad original concept, it was carried out poorly and the cover up was the worst in the history of cover-ups." "Where it should have stopped is at the deal standpoint, when they thought about it," he continued. "Because whoever thought of that idea, I think is in big trouble. And they should be in big trouble." "

So he's not so much condemning the murder as criticising the execution, if you'll excuse the pun.

By the end of the week, expect Trump to issue sanctions on Saudi Arabia. Top of the list will be a ban on the export of American oil and sand to Saudi.

WOW! That'll be a really 'big' threat...

  Quickbeam 07:12 24 Oct 2018

I've only just saw him on TV delivering this line, if you haven't seen it and think the written description is 'bad', folded arms with a grinning smarty pants ham actor delivery... it certainly sums up insincerity in a nutshell!

Where Trump is concerned it always will. It seems we are turning a blind eye to it as well given Hunt's limp-wristed statement. Germany has already limit or stop arms sale to the Saudis. Sometimes principles are important.

They can all stand together to stop selling any more weapons to them but there is one country out there that will probably be knocking on their door to sell them all the arms that they want.

The same country was not long jumping in to try and get more trade with china when Trump put higher tariffs on Chinese goods.

To many things happing in the world today that cannot just be classed a coincidence. All the arrows point in the one direction but no one seems to keen to stopping it.

As usual we have to rely on the USA to stand up and be counted but not sure their president is up to the job.

Anyhow that is the way I see it.

May said on PMQ that she would stand united with the EU on this, I think that counts as sitting on a fence. What will she do when this convenient fence becomes an impenetrable barrier next year?

  wee eddie 13:48 24 Oct 2018

Quickbeam, in the future we may not be part of the EU but, we will still need to retain close relations with the EU. As a negotiating position, May made a positive move.
