virus and trojan scripters

  stalion 13:06 29 Aug 2004

do these people get infected with their own and other writers viruses and trojans?

That is something I have never thought of before!
Interesting thought but unfortunately I don't know the answer but I would guess that they would as surely a virus or worm can't distinguish between a 'normal' PC and it's creators?

Similarly, how do the anti-virus companies (Norton, McAfee et al.) manage to study them without their systems falling victim?

Another good question!
I think Anti-virus companies use a thing called a Sandbox.
I am not sure exactly what one is so I will do a Google!

Virus creators wont be infected by the virus they create provided they have half a brain but will be just as susceptible to variants as the rest of us.

Anti-virus companies probably don't have their computers connected to the internet and probably use virtual machines to avoid infection.

I looked on Google for info but I couldn't find much relevant information there about a Sandbox.
Can anyone provide some links?
