Improved digital record keeping has largely made census taking unnecessary. If the authorities want to know where you were at a certain time on a specific date there are numerous databases which know - mobile phone records being one of the best. Then there are the registers of birth, deaths and marriage, HMRC data, the department of work and pensions, electoral registers... the list goes on.

Census information was helpful in the past, but these days there are cheaper and better ways to get statistical information about the population.

But will the data be available to the public as it is now after 100 years (albeit via paid services such as Ancestry)?

I understand your point of view but the sources you list are hardly random samples on which major decisions are to be made. The cost of the census is minuscule in comparison the the cost of the decisions made using its data.
