Swallows and Early Summer

If the Swallows are in Africa, how do they know it's Summer in England, do the Robins or Blackbirds phone them up?

Joking aside, the Swans on our local park 'lake' didn't bother migrating this year.

is conventionally believed to be the migration trigger, but there is increasing evidence that temperature changes have something to do with it as well.
