"Smoked" Kippers

  laurie53 11:19 31 Jan 2009

I've seen a couple of adverts recently for smoked kippers.

Anyone know where I can get some unsmoked ones?

That would be a new one on me!

Any decent wet fish shop. Unsmoked Kippers are known as Herrings.

Smoked kippers, are they the 'injected' ones or the real Abroath type?.

Will agree with canarieslover.Herrings.They used to be common in my day but much harder to get nowadays. Not sure if they can still be caught in our waters or not.

from the tinned tomatoes.

I think the Drifters out of Yarmouth used to bring Herring ashore - presumably they still do.

When I last noticed them on a fish stall they looked awfully small to those we bought some years back. Perhaps they are in decline.

Can not beat an Arbroath Smokie! One thing we still have left in Cardiff (in the market) Is a good old fashioned wet fish and game shop.

Lobster, crab, all varieties of fish, And game.

Don't get into the city much these day's, but alway's buy kippers when I do.

Isn't this all something of a red herring?

  WhiteTruckMan 15:06 31 Jan 2009

dont worry about that. Its just the tomatoes.
