Search for free things online that normally are paid for and you'll get more than what you where looking for in the first place!
Stay sway from sites offering the 'world' or porn for free and you'll be fine. As for spam.... set up a duff email account and use it for online accounts, easy.
Loopholes and software installed without users permission. Won't happen on a fully updated and patched machine. For the dubious software to get on your machine you have to click to allow it! so don't click!!!
Thanks for the heads up. Luckily I havent used a screen saver in years but it does emphasise the need for good computer security when surfing. I just need someone to get the message across to my children.
Which only enforces the 'common sense' approach which I keep banging on about. No amount of AVs or firewalls will prevent these.
'Won't happen on a fully updated and patched machine.'...I'm afraid this is incorrect. No matter how many patches you have you will NOT stop these progs if you give them permission and this may not be obvious that you are giving them permission...Spyfalcon/Spyaxe only ask if you want a free scan etc., etc. Patches have nothing to do with this.
I think it would be a good idea if the major search engines had a childrens facility, that avoided as much as possible inappropriate results. I'm not just on about porn, but admit its what I have foremost. especially when stumbled on inadvertantly. Its not going to be perfect, but I think its worth the effort.
BTW as an example of the above, try googling 'toys' and see what you come up with.
WhiteTruckMan I really like that idea, theres a real niche in the market for a childrens version of Google or indeed any of the other search engines. How differcult it would be for any company to create something like this I don't know but it would be worthwhile even if it only got rid of some of the inappropriate results.
