Many have welcomed this news of scrapping Key Stage 3 tests.

Let's get rid of objective assessment as this is never done in life after school. I feel that this country is becoming more like a Brian Rix farce every day.

No student likes exams; (I see this as a part-time examiner at a local university). However, they are something that has to be faced if we are to progress in life.

I cannot comment on the value of SATS, but I suspect that the scrapping of them may have something to do with the fact it may show up the shortcomings of teachers.

Having a test at 14 would give time for corrections to be made, before the important GCSE exams 2 years later.

If the tests exposed the shortcomings of teachers I very much doubt that SATs would be scrapped.

Teachers and head teachers have been calling for an end to this form of assessment for years and as a taxpayer I welcome the reduction in the money being wasted on these tests and prefer to trust the professionals to get on and do the job they're paid to do.
