The Paradise Papers - that was quite an opener!

Panorama This should be an interesting week. Corruption right to the highest echelons of society although the scale might be mind blowing.

ester Piggott avoided paying his taxes and look what happened to him.

Yes, but he got caught. Usually has consequences.

"Mark Faulkner and his partner Harriet Logan moved more than £28m in cash and assets to a Mauritian company called Babington PCC. Officially they have given away their fortune, but the Paradise Papers documents show they could still control how cash was spent because they acted as "investment advisers" to Babington. They have advised the offshore company to buy a £3.25m country mansion, properties in London, a brand new Aston Martin, an art collection, a collection of classic photographs and a cellar of vintage wines."

Piggott got stripped of his OBE.

I reckon Lewis Hamilton has blown his chances of a knighthood even although he has done nothing illegal. What a shame.

It would be somewhat hypocritical for Hamilton to get an honour when it has now been shown in the Paradise Papers that the Queen is also a tax avoider.

"...it has now been shown in the Paradise Papers that the Queen is also a tax avoider."

  1. By tradition, the monarch does not have to pay tax at all, but in 1992 the Queen and price Charles elected to make voluntary payments of both income tax and capital gains tax.

  2. The Queen is unlikely to have known anything about the investments made on her behalf by the Duchy of Lancaster. It has been widely acknowledged that had she been consulted she would not have countenanced anything which would have even the slightest whiff of impropriety about it.

FE, if your statement 2. above is correct then my guess that Hamilton will not get a knighthood is further enhanced.
