ordering a brand new car to your spec

No doubt you will have seen films inside a car plants assembly line , have you notice the big sheet of paper fastened to the bodywork , this has the details of what the customer wants at every stage of the build.

now go to a companies web site and try and order your car to your required spec.

Choose the bodyshell , number of doors , paint colour , engine size , wheels , interior trim , optional extras.

I guarantee at some point you get told if you want a certain something you must change something else. I "built" a ford st line and everything was ok until I chose the 145 bhp engine , I was told I must change my choice of paint ????

I did the same with a mustang and was told I could not have brown leather seats with my choice of colour paint.

Don't get me wrong I am not having a go a ford these are just 2 examples , I have looked at other car makers sites and come up with the same problem.

What I don't understand is this , all the parts for a certain model of car are in the building and until the workers read the spec sheet they wont know what my car wants so why cant I have exactly what I want to pay for.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but I found lane departure warning a pain in the proverbial, luckily my car does not have that "benefit"

My car has it but I keep it permanently switched off as I don't like the beeping and taking over steering. Only time I'm tempted to use it is on a long motorway run to make sure I'm alert all the time!

My last car had all the warnings - blind spot - lane departure - sharp bend - seat belt - door open - lights left on - keys left in etc.

Drove me bleeping mad, half the the I didn't know what it was bleeping for.

So went a lot simpler with the one I have now.

I was hit by a distracted driver today on the way home. Thankfully it was at a slow speed so the damage appears cosmetic. I won't know fully until all the systems in my vehicle are tested (parking sensors, etc.) by the dealership.

Not looking forward to getting the company to repair the damage. I have the driver on my rear camera looking in another direction and panicking as he turns around to see the vehicles in front have him have stopped.

I'm just thankful it wasn't serious and most importantly my daughter wasn't inside. I was on the way to pick her up.
