Networking forum

I don't usually browse the Helproom much, but I have done so more often lately and I'm seeing quite a lot of networking questions there.

So I just wanted to say to all those with network issues, especially newcomers to the forums or to PCs as a whole, please don't be put off the idea of posting in Networking!

I know that there will always be people who think that the Helproom will give their thread a wider audience, but there is specialist help to be had and your thread won't be lost or ignored or anything like that. Far from it. If you see it as too techy, don't let that put you off either; it's a bit of a techy subject, I know, but you can always ask for an explanation if one of us has used any technobabble!

It's in danger of being the poor relation of the Helproom if people don't use it, and they really should, because it's where those of use who like to help with network issues can always be found!

I understand where you are coming from but I have been on this forum for a couple of years and posted a problem that had caused me no end of problems it was not responed to it has been on networking for a week or more with no response I again posted on the help room very little response again so my final conclusion was give up.

I, for one, don't have all the answers, mammak. I must admit that haven't seen your thread, though if it's a Win98 issue, I may not have been able to respond anyway as networking with Win98 is not easy and not my speciality either. Sorry that no-one was able to help you; I'll go have a look for your thread and maybe I will have something to add, maybe not.

But what I'm trying to say is; don't be put off by a lack of replies to one question. I get that sometimes too. We all do.

I've been able to give you some starting points, mammak. Hope that helps.

Lets hope it has not rained much in mammak's neck of the woods. Or the binmen don't call till Monday.;-)

mammak's other thread.

The more information is posted, the greater the likelihood of the problem and situation being understood and thereby gaining a response.
I try to pop in as often as I can to see if I can help. Whenever I do, its not surprising to see that threads which gets few responses are often also those which do not provide much information.

I guess one should only expect to get as much back as one puts in?
When enough effort is maked to provide info, responses usually repays that effort many times over.

Well thanks for the timely reminder! Having just bought a new PC and my wife saying she would like the old laptop for her use I have started having sleepless nights about setting up a network. Gulp! So if you see me on Networking problems your help will be gratefully appreciated.

anskyber; me too!!
Took me over a year before starting to investigate wireless networking a few months ago.
I've found doing some initial research myself was well worthwhile. Using both existing threads in the Networking forum as well as internet articles.
Then having a go with the support of the excellent forumites here, things went pretty well.
There after I've tried to repay the help by coming back to help others!

This thread is now locked and can not be replied to.
