My wife and I have just got home after a holiday in Corfu. We are trying to remember the name of a flowering shrub that seems to be everywhere on the island. We've seen the same thing in southern France.

It's driving us mad - please help and tell us the name of this plant.

Oleander.

It comes in white, too.

By the way, I don't know whether you're planning to grow any where there are children in the home, but it's very poisonous.

Thanks very much - we'll be able to sleep tonight now! It was especially annoying as we had talked about the fact that it's poisonous when we saw it in France last year.

Thanks again.

I've often wondered whether you can get Oleander perfumes.

Are they poisonous? ;o)

for it is the food plant of the Oleander Hawk Moth caterpillar.

The moth doesn't breed in Northern Europe, but it's often found in Southern Europe in the summer. It's a beautiful creature, and can be seen hovering in front of flowers in the evening light, sipping nectar.
