read that earlier. Didn't think it was worth posting about as it's just speculation

At least the newsreaders will be able to pronounce the name this time - if it happens.

Lidl is doin' an ash vacuum cleaner for £30 quid, from 12 Dec.

The issue of volcanic ash...cannot be swept under the carpet.

"it's just speculation"

That's right, but it's informed speculation. It's not a question of whether Katla will erupt (it will) but when, and how big the eruption will be.

500 tremors in and around the caldera in the last month is a pretty good indication that something is very likely to happen, and soon.

".....and soon"

And the definition of 'soon' would be?

"And the definition of 'soon' would be?"

Good question, and of course I don't know the answer - it could happen tomorrow, or not for a few months, but happen it will, and we'll all know about it. Let's hope it will be a mild event.

Krakatoa...east of Java, was a distant cousin of Katla...on Iceland.
