As part of the UK's aid budget, the Department for International Development (DfID) will give India £52m this year and a further £46m in 2019/20.

Just what the hell is going on?

How many doctors and nurses - not managers - would this fund, or how many policemen?

  HondaMan 11:38 07 Sep 2019

Sorry - Police OFFICERS or should that me "officerettes"?

£52 million, pales into insignificance against what England gives to Scotland,£9billion, we are told - (about 0.05%).

India were allowed to go, when they wanted. We could save a fortune. How many police officers would THAT buy?

I have to admit that this is a bit "orf", spending money of Space Exploration when people starve but, as a fair proportion of the Aid we give to other countries, ends up in Swiss Bank Accounts. I can't see the problem.

At least it is being used to pay the Scientists wages

I'd sooner we spent money on Scotland rather than India as they are still part of the Union.

"At least it is being used to pay the Scientists wages"

That's a bit of a longshot justification!

"I'd sooner we spent money on Scotland rather than India as they are still part of the Union."

Ah... so we're appreciating the Union again...

"India were allowed to go, when they wanted."

I thought that we were dragged kicking and screaming into giving the jewel back...

Oh dear... 3 cynical posts in a row, I'll try to be serious on the next one...

Britain gives financial aid to many countries that were once part of the monarchy. Various Caribbean islands for instance have been funded around the same amount too over the years.

Then there are also donations of police vehicles, training and more. All this is part of being a developed nation. The US and others do the same thing too.
