Immersing Electical Items

I have a slow cooker which the instructions say is safe to immerse in water for washing.

I know they wouldn't dare say such a thing if there was any risk, but I still find it a difficult concept to grasp and find myself hesitating every time!

Does this only apply to the Cooking Pot and not the electrical casing?

What is the Model and manufacturer?

My advice would be to unplug it before doing so ;o)

You'll find that the inner ceramic pot lifts out of the outer electrical casing. That's the bit that gets washed.

"Cooking Pot "

"You'll find that the inner ceramic pot"

It's not that type, it's a Prestige 471, a self standing, metal, non-stick pot.

Just unplug it and wash it up!

More of an electric frying pan than a slow cooker

I bow to your superior knowledge.

All I know is you can put in some casserole steak (or venison, which is why I was washing it up this morning) sling in whatever veg is to hand, similar with stock, set it to "low" for five or six hours and serve a delicious one pot meal.

That, to me, is slow cooking.

When you've done, you wash it up the same way as the dishes, immersed in soapy water.

Not exactly superior.
I didn't realise you could use them in that way.

We have the 'Crockpot' type which we find very useful for stews, casseroles, curries etc. Your one seems to be more versatile as you can, I assume, use it in 'frying pan' mode as well if you want.

Personally, I get rather anxious when I use one of those electrical contact sprayer cans ;o))
