I thought it tasted strange.

Seems like I'm not the only one.

No doubt I'll get to read all about it (again) in the local paper as there is a columnist writes each week describing his views on "best buys" I don't drink but read his column as I find some of his tales highly amusing.

I suppose it all comes down to 'knowing your stuff', because the bottle and label might not provide the true clues or contents.

I once read an article about various drinking procedures. It seemed to suggest that the first couple of drams of fine malt whisky, will screen poorer quality drank afterwards. The same might apply to 'good' champagne, and possible refills from another sample of 'poorer' stock, if the customer is slightly drunk or boastful of their wealth and position in life, when the bar-person or hostess knows better ;o)

Aren't all quality French wines "Appellation Controlee"?

Were the inspectors/licensing authority in on it too?

  OTT_B 21:08 18 Feb 2010

I think the appelation controlee only specifies the region, not the grape.

Don't think it was just Americans.

E&J Gallo very popular shipper over here too, though I don't know if this particular variety was imported.

I'll stick with Vimto...

After the first 2 glasses it matters not what you drink.

  morddwyd 09:38 21 Feb 2010

Try two glasses of "lite" lemonade and then a nice dry white!

  jack 10:48 21 Feb 2010

Actually- This Christmas past when unexpected guests showed I made a 'Mulled' wine with Vimto, spices and a good splash of Scottish 'Falling Down Water'

It was much appreciated and like as not will do the same again.
No deceit I told them .........Afterwards
