I have often wondered how symbols such as :) could be called a smiley face. It was only the other day I realised they had to be looked at sideways!

My kids are still ribbing me about it.

Anyone else found themselves in a similar situation?

Gandalf, your smiley is very good.

LOL. :-D

That's how they started out as "emoticons" technically they ain't smiley until turned into a variation of that Happy Yellow Face.

For instance if I type :) on most other sites and mobiles it turns into a little smiley, the right way round and the same size as the text.

Maybe PCA could introduce them.

Many years ago I was watching a (very old) Dr Who - and I suddenly came out with "hey, did you realise that K9 sounds like "canine""

It took me a few minutes to wonder why my wife and son were rolling about on the floor laughing at me.

I never use those smiley things, probably because some people over-use them.

  Stuartli 16:32 14 Aug 2007

I wouldn't agree with you...:-)))))))

I rarely use them..:-))

Unless it's absolutely necessary..:-)

So as I am declaring my ignorance can someone remind me what LOL means. There was a thread on it a while back but it turns up 100 threads if I search.
