Housing shortage...yeah right.

This illustrates perfectly what happens when speculation and downright lies buoy up a property market... click here It is so desperate that the Republic Government is considering demolishing 300,000 new homes. Interesting as Ireland is one of the PIIGS countries which are causing financial instability in Europe.

If the price was right they would all be sold tomorrow. Second home, holiday lets, remote in-law accommodation, remote teenager accommodation, remote mistress/toyboy accommodation, cheap upgrade from slums. Demolish...?

Son of friends of ours and his wife bought a brand new 3 bedroomed house 2 years ago on a new development.

Theirs was the only one bought, result being the developers leased remaining properties to an association. Tenants were soon found via the DSS with the taxpayer paying the rents.

Our friends family find themselves in the predicament of trying to sell up being a waste of time and money.

I've seen a number of new small housing developments in our region, when completed, 'for sale' signs go up then after a period of nothing happening up go the 'for rent' notices. Now even these do not seem to be attracting anyone.
