Dog grooming -Yorkshire Terriers - advice please ?

  freaky 20:12 04 May 2007

We have two Yorkies and I decided to cut their hair myself. So got some clippers from Tesco.

In which direction do you start clipping i.e. the back of the neck to the tail, or vice versa.

Oh well here here

There was some good advice, but no mention about hair clipping technique.

I did a Google search before this posting, and had the same problem.

Shave all it's hair off and have done with here

Made me laugh, but I don't think my two Yorkies would like to look like that...hence my post!

Be very careful at each end.

the front end can be sharp!!

the front end will get you if you get the back end wrong.

Only practise on one of the Dogs.

When you've got it right you'll know, because the other one will stop running off at the sight of the clippers.

Some good information on those two links.

I 'groomed' the one Yorkie later yesterday, and her coat is much shorter. Strange thing was that when the other Yorkie saw her she barked and ran away....still trying to find her!

Once I find the other one, then I will practise on her as well. Fortunately my wife is away for a few days so the 'groomed' dog's fur may grow a little in the meantime.
