CD player in a Zafira

  paddyjack 14:10 16 Apr 2010

Anybody know how to remove the front of the 'Infotainment System'. I need to remove the front to extract CD's (One was in their, grandkids decided to put another one in).

Have tried an Allen key but it seems to be springloaded in some way.

The handbook has no info on removal of same.

Looks like a specialist tool required, as they talk about release keys, thanks anyhow.

The tool you need can be fashioned from a wire coat-hanger bent into a U shape if the allen keys you have didn't work.

You can buy the various makers release keys from Halfords or the like, they're nothing special.

Check your owners manual, you may have a thin metal tool for removing the CD player facia tucked in the folder...

If this is the same facia as on the last (not latest) model Astra the standard removal tools will not touch it. You need to get a specialist audio fitter or Vauxhall dealer (oh no!) to do it.

X reg 1.8 elegance had a delco cdr500 fitted. Never needed to use the cd as, like the picture in Al94's link, it was permanantly tuned to radio 2. Never had that unit out but did have to remove and replace the car400 in my old 96 vectra (identical mountings) and that came out easy as you please once the grub screws were out. just took 2 lengths of wire cut from a coathanger. Dont know how some people on ebay have the cheek to charge 1.99 for them.

If its stuffed then a replacement will be approx £50ish on ebay.

A lot of money for a simple mistake. I advise punishing the kids by putting it back in and making them listen to chris evans, saying thats all it will pick up...

Try this, or maybe not!

They already know Radio 2 and I'm constantly told to change it by the 2.5 year old, who is also the one responsible for stuffing in the second CD. Moral never let kids play in the front while you are doing something at the back.

I can live without the CD player anyhow, but been of the tinkering nature we got to give it a go.

A bit drastic.

At the end of the day the car gets changed in October anyhow, thanks to Motability.
