The government is to be asked to bail out the British car industry

What British car industry?

Any money will simply help to prop up the dividends to the foreign owners and shareholders.

I know there's a lot of British jobs at stake, but let's not kid ourselves that these are British companies.

Just like the US car industry bail out, where none of the money is to be used in foreign subsidiaries, we should put a proviso on any monies loaned to make sure all the money is used in British sites.

This should be quite easy, as each countries plants belong to separate divisions, eg UK GM plants are Vauxhall, German GM plants are Opel, Spanish plants are Seat etc...

Seat is owned by VW

We picked up our new car up in April. First 1500 mile service in June. I popped in late September to book it's first main service and was greeted with a sign on the door that the dealership had closed down due to the financial state of the industry.

But that's my point.

The so-called British car industry consists almost entirely of foreign subsidiaries.
