I was taught this doggerel by a Scottish pal of mine and his version was thus :- (excuse my spelling of his words)

Lang may yer lum reek
and may yer pipie dockle
a million jawdies in yer pouch
an whisky in yer bottle!

A translation from our Scottish contingent would be appreciated?

I was told many years ago when I lived in Northumberland that this was Scottish a lum was a chimney and reek meant to smell. So presumably the loose meaning for this part was "may you long have a fire burning.

Quite possibly, he did tend to slur his words when he had had a 'guid night oot', and that was when he inevitably tried to teach me this verse!

All the very best to all for 2010 as I raise my glass full of the 'elixir of life' with a hearty Slange Var. To the Gaelic speaking I say 'Slainte Mhath' and my thanks for one of the finest exports from Scotland - thirty year old Glenfiddich single malt whisky. Hic! :o) TC.

Gaelic not being my first language (or second for that matter)
I would like to simply wish you all a very happy and peaceful new year, and astonishing good luck.
