ive been trying to figure out what this building is & its drove me to a brick wall..?

Does anyone know what it is or any history of it as it looks fantsticly weird..

It's part of a derelict magnesia extraction plant on the Tees estuary at Hartlepool. TC.

It's a aeration pond, for water treatment by the look of it. When in use the cross arms rotate from the hub in the centre and a liquid is pumped down them to trickle over a bed of crushed rock or coke then back to the hub where it pumped round again. This exposes the liquid to a large amount of air. Similar ponds are often found in sewage treatment works where bacteria on the bed break down the sewage before being settled out as sludge.
