21 Hour week advice from Think Tank

It sounds great but could you actually afford it? I know that I wouldn't have been able to attain what I have if I had only worked a 21 hour week and been paid pro rata.

This thinktank must be made up of very inexperienced folk. France tried a more modest version and found they had to modify it as they became uncompetitive. I these days of low tarrifs and international trade, the idea that the UK could move to a 21 hour week is ludicrous. Of course if some people are willing to "job share" and two people work 21 hours each and receive the wage of 42 hours between them, fine.

Thanks for the link. As we have mentioned before, like the theory of Communism, it is a great theoretical idea, but totally impractical in the competitive world we live in.Unless the Chinese and others become Hippies!

Again interesting link. Regettably reinforces ones prejudices re that Newspaper.
Many think that the Government has money and forget they have none except what they get from us in taxes.

Minimum wage is £5.80 an hour, isn't it?

21 x £5.80 = £121.80.

Not gonna get far on that.

You're going to love the State Pension then.

and forget they have none except what they get from us in taxes."

It's a common misconception.

was: "It is time for a properly resourced strategy that will tackle obesity."

Food rationing perhaps, or compulsory P.E. before starting the day's work.

Compulsory P.E. before starting the day's work.

I visited Honda, many years ago, and they did just that. I don't know if they still do.

This new thinktank idea is not new either. We first heard about this in the 60s or 70s and everyone was worried how they would spend all their free time (with less money) back then.

I work a 30 hour week and if I could afford to work 21 per week I would.

I wish I enjoyed such luxury.
