is zonealarm better than windows firewall?

there must be something thats not agreeing with Zone Alarm or the other way round...what other protection software do you have aprt from ZA and Windows Firewall?

Windows FW only blocks incomming traffic. Zone alarm will do the same aswellas stopping rogue programs from accessing the net, sending your personal details and hogging your bandwidth.

You may need to set ZA correctly, what exactly are the problems you are getting?

you should not run windows firewall and zone alarm at the same time. Go into control panel windows firewall, and turn it off. If you register with zone alarm you get free updates to keep up your protection.

and in any case Winxp firewall leaves at least three ports open, whereas ZA will Stealth all ports.

Any good commercial firewall worth it's salt will have more features than WinXP SP2 firewall.You will be OK by using XP firewall most of the time, but if you can, get a commercial one ( McAfee , Norton, FSecure, Panda etc ) or a good freebie such as Zone Alarm.
