I'm thinking of getting my first MP3 player and wanted some recommnedations as to memory, make and value for money.
Apart from music I'd like to put talking books on it.

In my experience iriver mp3players have been the best value for money and packed with features, far better than the ipod. I have the h120 20gb and I think it's great. How much where you looking to spend and how many songs will you be putting on the device?

Crash,
In reality I will probablt never put more than 1000-2000 songs on it plus 20-30 talking books.Where did you buy from?

Videosentry,
Thanks. Sounds good with FM radio on as well.

My advice would be whatever player you get invest in a decent set of headphones to get the most from your player.

You will never get 1000-2000 songs on 256mb player. You will need a hard drive based player like the one I have. I bought from click here. I would recommend the Creative zen 20GB (because at £169, it's great value for money), IRIVER H320 lite 20gb (£205), the ipod mini 6gb (£169) or the IRIVER H10 5GB (£170). My mate has the creative one and thinks it's a good player.

I have a Mobiblu 256mb mp3 player. It looks like an ordinary Cassette tape. It also takes MMC cards. It works as a Walkman but also plays in any domestic/car cassette player. Also acts as a digital dictaphone. Comes with all cables, earphones, two rechargeable batteries and charger.

Mine is model DAH225S, which appears to be discontinued.

Just been on the irriver site and seen the H320 20GB with FM radio. Looks very good and looks like a price of £187.
Are there any specific formats I will need?

PCA issue 119 reviews several MP3 players, not that I'm interested in getting one, but what struck me was that not once was sound quality mentioned. Doesn't that matter any more? Is it just a question of how many "songs" can packed onto the device and how pretty it looks?

iRiver every time, recorder, radio, remote control, holds app 14000 tracks...perfect sound.
