XP wont connect to IE

Trying to help out a mate here.

He built a new pc from pc components shop and installed XP pro. PC works really well.

Connecting to IE via telewest broadband with RJ45 & network card, gets message IE cannot connect. Broadband link is proven, all firewalls etc turned off, security at low.

Is there anything obvious to check before he gets too technical with diagnosing problem.

N (sorry if it's too vague)

Some one has suggested the graphics card has a firewall setting and he should check this. Will do and report back, meantime any other suggestions welcome.

Is it as simple as IE being set to work offline only?

The internet connection is working ok (Internet connection pings ok to a number of sites), however we cannot view the web. Will it be advisable to disable the nvidia firewall. Could it be anything else?

Win XP Pro, I.E. 6 telewest broadband, Azrock motherboard, AMD Sempron 3200+, SATA II HDD, 512 Mb DDR2 Ram

IE6 fix click here will not work with IE7.

Download to disc/flash drive and run on the pc in question.

Also try sfc

Start/run and type sfc /scannow
