XP speech

  Varig 22:10 28 Aug 2006

Looked at recent post by rawprawn but not got it working for me.
I have XPpro as O/S and the XP CD and Office 2000 CD.
I dont know how to get the speech facility to work.
Dont want to teach it to type, just read docs.

In control panel/speech settings is greyed out.
In word/tools there is no speech option.
Can anyone assist on this please.

the problem is that you have office 2000. I think you need a more recent version of Word for this feature.

As usual, I'm open to correction!

According to the other posting on this by rawprawn speech is available on Office 2000 but I have no idea how to even find it let alone set it up.

I stand corrected!

Don't get too excited about the speech facility. If, or when, you do find it, you will find it is such poor quality that you won't use it again.

What happens if you type "Speech" into Word Help?
If it tells you how to activate it, it must be on the cd. Also stuartl says he has it on Office 2000 in my post.(Last post in the thread)

like most help programs, no help at all.
I dont know how bad it is unless I can try it, but if it is there I want to make it work.

Microsoft Help files for virtually all its programs and applications are very comprehensive and well written.

Speech is covered in Help and Support as well.

By the way, you are using the Start>Programs>Accessories>Accessibility>Narrator route?

I may not be the best searcher in the world but I cannot find a way of doing this in Word 2000.

I've currently got Narrator reading out this Microsoft Accessibility web page link - it's driving me mad so I'm turning it off...:-)

I have Office 2000 rather than just World on its own, but I would presume it still applies.

To repeat any text read out you have to use Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar.
