There's an XP SP2 download for several computers over a network - could you just use it for your single computer rather than downloading each time you re-install windows? they say not to but is that because they want the £6 for it on cd-rom? TIA
(have xp home)

Provided that it is not pirared yes you can.
I sent of to Microsoft for the Free SP2 Cd and it says you can copy and distribute it freely.

download it from MSoft and save to disk.

burn onto a CD and you can use it as many times and on as many PCs as you like.

As pointed out Microsoft asked those who acquired SP2 disks to pass them on once it had been installed to help minimise security risks for all Windows users.

It also, for once, allowed magazines to distribute its software (i.e. the SP2 pack) on cover disks or an individual disk - I still have the PC Advisor version.

The SP2 file from this Microsoft page is identical to that on the SP2 CD they distributed (apart from the name) - click here
