xp shows log on to wndows at start up

when i start windows xp pro it says log on to windows then a box appears with my name in it and password i have never used a password as it always starts up normaly now this appears i dont have a password and have tried lots of my other passwords to no avail so how do i correct it i have looked in bios but nothing there all i have is a windows screen with the logo in the btm rh corner i have some special photos in and dont want to loose them by formatting any ideas

if you didn't supply a password,leave the box blank then try again

Make the Welcome Screen available
To make the Welcome screen available, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
2.Click Change the way users log on or off.
3.Click to select the Use the Welcome screen
4.Click OK.

Hi iqs had alook at the NT thing and it looks to hard for me will it be easy to just format and reinstall also i think there is another OS on the drive dont ask me how

Try this first
Keep tapping F8 at boot up until menu comes up for starting choices
Choose Safe Mode and press enter
Start in Safe mode
wait until the loads of data finishes displaying and then in the Account choices there should be an Administrator account as well as your own.
Choose the Administrator Account to open
in the next window click on NO and the System restore should then load up for you to choose a date to restore to.
