XP reinstall = updates & downloads again?

Does an XP reinstall automatically mean re-downloading all of the updates etc again. If so is there any way of backing them up once they have been downloaded?

It's a chocker and your one of millions who have had to do it all again. You can't save the download files as they are self exec's, What you can do though is when you do download them next time, save them somewhere Else with Download updates to install later. click here.
Select "Personalise Windows Update". Place a check in "Display the link to the Windows Update Catalogue under See Also."
Select Windows Update Catalogue under See Also.

To Save Windows Update Files: Connect to the Windows Update Catalogue:
click here. Click on the link for your Download
Basket. Review/Remove updates/Browse (Pick Folder)/Download Now.

Afraid so.

Once you've reloaded (and installed the MSBlaster patch from a friend) go to Windows Update, click on Critical Updates and make a note of all the numbers.

Then customise Windows Update so that the Catalog appears. Go to the catalog and download all the updates you identified earlier (save them to a CD is best).

Then just click on each of the updates to install them, don't forget you do need the MSBlaster patch installed before going on the web.
