XP Probs - Trying To Reformat Dell Inspiron 5100

Hi all,

I've just got a laptop from my dad, and basically it needs to be started from scratch. Not too fussed about the bundled software, and I should be able to get most of the drivers.

My dad has basically lost the setup disks that come with it, but I have a copy of XP pro which I'm trying to get the laptop to use, but it says the operating system I'm trying to replace is newer than the one I'm trying to load on.

Is there a way of fooling the PC so I can load it on?

Cheers in advance!!

You could format the hard drive before installing.
A full guide is given

Be sure you have the code for the new XP disk before you start, you'll need it for the installation.
