xp pro and diskeeper warning

left machine on while popping out for a bit, on return message on screen 'diskeeper has noticed CHKDSK is scheduled to run, please run CHKDSK/F pc would not allow explorer to open (or rather it opened then microsoft error and needs to close etc)then mailwasher got same problem, diskeeper warning was coming up every minute or so, decided to restart halfway through boot up pc went into disc checking mode found a problem in file number $$9686 and carried on sorting it, my question is how did this get scheduled to run and why couldn't i open any explorer windows?

Double click "My Computer"

Right click your "C" drive and select properties.

Now select the tools tab and then click on Error checking "check now"

Tick both boxes and then click ok

now restart the computer
