  geoffinhedon 15:46 08 May 2003

I am using XP pro and tried to install MicrosoftOffice Professional
Installation failed with the following:
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running in safe mode or if windows installer has not been correctly installed
Contact your support for assistance
Any ideas on how to solve this little problem please
I can install ,for example, a prog from a magazine cover disc with no problem
Very strange?

Go to Start > Run > Copy and Paste:

Now click "OK"

Now scroll down and find "Windows Installer". Now right click and choose PROPERTIES. Under "Startup type:" Choose Automatic. Now click "ok".

Restart your machine. Now try to reinstall MS Office.

Now if that does not work.

Go to Start > Run > Copy and Paste:

Click ok and have your XP disc in the drive.

When it has finished restart and try the install again.

WinXP is very particular when it comes to installing any Microsoft software, and if it does not recognise the product key for any reason it will give the message you have.

Phone M/S and give them the key number you have and they will verify it and issue a new one if necessary. regards. J.
